The arrival of the Covid vaccine19 will increase bookings on the holiday rental market in 2021

The holiday rental market has been affected by the 2020 coronavirus pandemic and the entire tourism industry. So far, compared to previous years, restrictions and restrictions on people entering and leaving Spain have reduced bookings and increased market revenues.

AvaiBook, the leading software for managing holiday homes in Spain, Italy and Portugal, has been analysing this extraordinary market situation since the alarm condition in Spain began in mid-March. With the aggregate data of the bookings managed through the software, it is worth noting the significant increase in the number of these bookings in the last part of the year, especially in November and early December, which coincides with the announcement of the arrival of the first vaccines against the coronavirus.

These are dates when the number of reservations tends to increase due to the Constitution and the Immaculate Conception Bridge, and due to the proximity of Christmas when users make last minute reservations. What has been seen, however, is a greater increase in bookings thinking in the long term, with more interest for next Easter and even for the summer of 2021.

In fact, the average increase in daily bookings since the beginning of November has been 114% compared to the same period in 2019. Obviously, the dimensions are different as we were not in the middle of a pandemic in 2019. However, the trend is increasing significantly during this period of 2020 and we believe it was strongly influenced by the announcements made in November on the effectiveness of the various vaccines and the launch of the first doses in Europe between late 2020 and early 2021.

From these data, we can deduce that, in general, people are looking forward to the situation returning to normal as soon as possible in order to be able to travel again and enjoy a well-deserved rest or holiday. And many are thinking ahead and booking in advance to ensure accommodation at some of the busiest times of the year.

Continuing this comparison of averages between the last stretch of 2019 and 2020, the average amount per booking has also increased by almost 25% since the beginning of November and averages around 484 euros per booking compared to 390 euros in 2019. Accommodations are booked for a higher number of days, which is an increase in the average amount of reservations, which the booking analysis confirms earlier.
